The book lists both a 30 and a 35 Amp voltage regulator and they both look the same. What is the difference and which one do I need? I really would appreciate some help. Thanks!

I don't have the truck manual handy right now. Either one should work OK, however. The only time the generator is going to put out maximum charge current is right after starting, for a short time until the battery recovers from the starting load. After that, it will drop back to 10 amps or less. Is the battery going down? I can probably check and adjust the one you've got, if you're interested. We're only about 20 miles apart, it seems. Email me at [email protected]. Jerry

The voltage regulator is one of the few parts in the engine compartment that I have not either repaired, rebuilt or replaced. It may not need to be replaced, it just looks like something from an archaeological dig. Anytime you can get North of Fayetteville in the Bellville area give me a yell Hotrod----I'd enjoy showing you the truck. Phone number is 438-0820.

They've been in business long enough, they've probably got a New Old Stock Delco unit on the shelf! If not, I've got a couple stashed away around the farm. If you want your old one to look a little better, slip the cover off very gently, and clean it up and paint it. Jerry

I have a 64 Corvair van in need of that "35 amp" VR... I'm trying to keep it as original as possible (my other 61 Corvair Greenbrier and 64 Corvair sedan both have alternator conversions done to them). I've been told by a reliable source that the VR mentioned above also had a "cut out" switch to keep the generator from "motoring" once the belt was lost, so the "GEN" light would come on... once case where an AMP gauge would come in handy. Thanks for any help, even though I'm not a true "Stovebolt" owner, it IS a Chevrolet! Take care, Lon Anderson White Mills, KY | | |

Are you sure you don't want Corvair Central, Corvair Center or Virtual Vairs?? Same regulator and as Hotrod said, the 30 will probably hold up just fine. All have three connections; B(bat),A(sometimes called gen), and F(field). All have three relays inside; cutout, current reg, and voltage reg. '65 Corsa 140HP convertible here.

The newer ones are junk. Keep a spare around, and maybe even take the cover off, paint it, and put it back, but never replace it unless it is FUBAR.
