The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay too many electrons??

I have a '67 Chevy stepside, with a 235. Recently had some work done on truck, which included some general wiring and other electrial work for taillights, and a little under the hood. Anyhow, I recently noticed that my relatively new battery now "sizzles." It'll make this noise for 10-20 minutes after I've turned off the key. I've only noticed it after I turn off the engine, so I don't know if it's doing it while engine is running, but I suspect that it is. Could this be a voltage regulator problem, or what? Any info very much appreciated. wjb

It sounds like the alt. is overcharging the battery. Check the battery voltage with the motor running. It shouldn't be over 14.2 volts.

This is one of the reasons why voltmeters have replaced ammeters as an indication of the condition of the charging system.
