hi guys i have installed a dual fenton intake from speedway on a stock splitted exhaust manifold and i bought new weber carbs from langdons.1954 235 engine..

engine idles fine but is bearly driveable
it hesitates and stumbles bad and will bearly pull the truck forward.. i had some issues with dirt in fuel line so on initial fire up on carb was clogged up.
i have taken the carbs apart and cleaned them out (god enough i think) jets look fine..

so what can it be?
the spacers between carbs and intake feels cold but heat rise should be good with original manifold bolted to the fenton intake no? or is there still some circuit in the carbs that may be clogged?

man i`ve taken water over my head here as im not a good mechanic.

Sounds like it may be a vacuum leak. Did you have issues prior to installing your new intake/exhaust/carbs? May also want to check the usual: timing, mixture, vacuum advance and other basics. I would also add a fuel filter at the tank. Langdon's may be able to give some tech help.

hi thanks so much for the reply.. no problems prior install of intake and carbs it ran great before go figure! i know the vacuum advance on the distributor doesnt work but didnt seem to be a big issue with the original carb/intake

when i hook up the vacuum to carbs do i need to take
it from both carbs or just one?

it seems almost like the symptoms gets worse after warm up?

Since your vacuum advance doesn't work you should cap the outlets on the carbs. Check w/Langdon's on hook up once you get a new vacuum canister for distributor. That said your symptom sounds more and more like a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. Are you sure all gaskets are properly in place? I have used a length of vacuum hose to my ear and listened to the manifold at the connection to the engine/carbs for leaks (hissing sound). You can also spray carb cleaner on the joints. Where there is a leak the engine will speed up when the cleaner is sucked into the manifold. Also works for the carb connection to manifold. Have you checked mixture and timing?

hi again i changed out the gaskets today and it helped allot the truck is a little more driveable but still hesitates and stumbels when getting trotthle.. i have not done any syncing
to the carbs maybe thats it? do i need some sort of vac gauge? i played around with the timing today but could not get it any smoother

anone know where to get a new distributor?

If the truck ran OK before you changed to the new setup I wouldn't start playing around with everything else I would just work on the carbs. And yes you would only use vac from one carb for the distributor.I would call Langdon and tell Him you're problem he might be able to give you somthing to work on to fix it.

As Pete says, best advice on syncronizing the carbs would come from Langdon. Email him for procedures/advice BEFORE you buy anything. I'm sure you won't be the first asking the question and I understand from comments on this forum that he is very knowlegeable and easy to work with.
