It has the 2 ports, one for bypass, so it's not the same as old 235 or 216 pumps.

Some stores have access to rebuilders. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Anyone who can point me to where to buy a new one ? It has the 2 ports, one for bypass, so it's not the same as old 235 or 216 pumps. Do you mean 2 ports total or two pairs of ports (4 hose fittings)? My 1959 & 1960 261s had water pumps with two pairs of ports. I have never been able to find that at a parts supplier. I do not know if the 261 water pumps that are now sold are just 235 pumps. I think they must be different, because the radiator hose fitting are different diameters. Here is a 2 by-pass (4 hose ports) 261 water pump at Rockauto.com (wait a while for the pop-up page to load). | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 2,544 | You can order it directly from, rockauto.com
A-1 Cardone #58161 should be the one.

Advice please My Chevy Viking 1959

I made my own from 1/2" coppper tubing and fittings and then painted it, it actually looks like it could be factory. The function of the bypass is too nice a design not to keep in my opinion.

Advice please Yes, I have done this on two engines. In fact, one of the engines came that way from the factory (on a 1960 school bus). I also used small-truck 235 thermostat housings, in order to have the hose diameters matching the smaller radiator. You will want to use you original thermostat housing. If the thermostat does not have a hole drilled in it (to allow a little water flow at all times, drill a 1/8" hole in the thermostat). | | |
