But when the alternator is running the meter will be 'pinned down' at the full position, but it shouldnt cause a problem.

There may be less needle deflection at times though because current requirements are less with a 12 volt system. For example, your 12V headlights will pull about half the current as a 6V bulb of the same wattage. | | |

Once the starting load is replenished in the batterey, the needle should stay near center until the next time the engine is started.
