My '48 came with 15" 6 lug aluminum wheels and fairly wide radials. I'd like to put steel wheels with factory style hubcaps on it. I think the narrower wheels and tires will look good and make steering easier. I've been told that 16" 6 lug steel wheels are hard to come by. Will 15" steel wheels clear the brake drums? Will the repro factory style hubcaps fit on 15" wheels?

mojoel, yes, narrower tires will make steering easier. 16" wheels are common, but a lot of them suffer from rust (at least in the Southeast U.S.) Repros are available. Be aware, some will take original hubcaps, and some only will take the special caps they sell. If you have stock brake drums, most any 6 lug will bolt up. Offsets will be different, too. If you have front disc brakes, stock rims will probably not work. Good luck!
