I picked up a 1959 C3600 about 10 years ago and am about to start the long process of restoring it. (Can't wait!) I'm puzzled by the jar in my engine compartment. There's nothing in the Chevy repair manual on this thing. Has anyone ever seen this before? What is is and what do I need to do to restore it? That looks like a windshield washer bottle. I am guessing that there is a vacuum operated pump inside.

welcome to the garage Rick, there was a post recently where someone supplied some info on how those worked

yes, it's a washer setup, which won't be in the manual because it was an optional accessory and not real common .... looks complete enough that you should be able to cipher things out - and rather than a pump in the bottle, I believe there should be one hose that connects to that extra fitting on the manifold so it runs off engine vacuum like the vacuum wipers

and for your truck model designation - leave off the "C", that wasn't used until the 60's, it's just a 3600
