on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 408 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 408 | I have some headlamp bezels and stainless grille strips on my 77 chevy truck I want to paint black. Will the paint stick if I sand it or will it peel off the chrome and stainless later. Thanks Paul | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 1,232 | I painted the chrome plated interior window garnish in my '54. So far, it is holding up well. Disclaimer - I baby the pieces / no harsh treatment.
The garnish was originally painted steel. Previous owner chrome plated them. The chrome was pealing, so I pealed off all that I could. Then sanded with 320g to give some tooth to the primer (I believe that I used 320). Primed with epoxy primer. Sprayed rattle-can sandable primer over the epoxy and wet sanded smooth. Top coated with 2K urathane. No clear coat.

But I am only recently a convert to the Newly Reformed Fundamentally Evangelical Synagogue of the Epoxy Masters (sub sect SPI) where by I am allowed to paint on any given day that has the ending "day" at the end of the day... and with the assurance from the elders that "Our Way" is the only true path to eternal paint adhesion, Can I get an AAAaa MEN? Now please excuse me I have a wholly (Tyvek)cloth jump suit to adorn and a gas mask to don as my two fat fenders beckon from yon platform of pick up bed. I go now to sssssss.....pray

I will do the light bezels first if I screw them up only 15.00 for replacements. I'm not sure about the quality of parts available for '77 trucks but if the aftermarket parts for ADs is anything to go by...... 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr.
