Hi all...I have a 1946 3/4 ton with a 1 ton eaton axle...I am trying to bring the gear ratio into the high 300 (3:73-3:90) or low 400(4:11) range...any suggestions? Also does anyone know the axle spline count on the one ton axles? Thanks...

hey jkully, swapped the rear end in my 46 one ton GMC with a corperate 14 bolt, 3.73:1 gears and better brakes.Saw one on craigslist in Tampa the other day they were asking $150.00 BTW one of my buisness partners just got a 1978 18ft.SeaCraft.I believe the spline count on my origonal rear end was 31.Nice looking truck, what size wheels and tires are on it and are they 8lug?

Hi amabolter...thanks for the reply...my rims are 16" with 8 lugs...the previous owner had these made...took the old centers and had them welded onto new 16" rims...and he did a nice job...can send some pics if you would like.

amabolter,
could you tell me what you did to hook up the parking brake on the new axle to the old setup?

amabolter...PM me your email and I will send pics of the rim & tire...the front end is stock...I believe that any 3/4 ton (C-20)from 71 to 72 with an Eaton axle should work...maybe other bolters will chime in... John

The stock E-Brake cables fit into the newer brakes, they bolted right up to the backing plates and cable was the correct length.

Man, that is amazing, thanks. That is the one things that I would be worried about going to a newer axle.

Truckernix: In the 14 bolt axles I have, the internals of the brakes are virtually identical to my 54. I even took the parking brake lever out to compare. The lever is only slightly longer than the Eaton axle due to the fact they are 13" brakes and the oem are 12". Looks like a direct fit.
