Anybody know how many are out there. I was just looking through the gallery and no 66 swb stepsides. Were these undesireable back then. Just wondering.Larry

Not exactly sure what you are asking by the title. How many shortbeds were made??

There was not much "cool" factor in owning trucks in the sixties. People that say there was probably weren't there in the sixties or their memory has changed history. Mostly people bought them for utility so the long box made more sense. Wideside or stepside the long box is way more plentiful.

Now go to auto dealer today and try to find any "company" truck or PU. Mat floor and rollup windows. Non-existant in Suburbans. GM made a "work truck" for awhile (model said "WT")...came white and they all had the same few options.

I was just wondering because I see lots of the fleetside and next to none of the stepsides. Maybe they had made there run in history and the fleetsides took there place. I was looking through the gallery, I do that now and then just to look at what some of you guys had done to your trucks, and noticed that while I was drooling.

I had a couple trucks in the 60's and more in the 70's like my '62 stepside and my bud's 66 stepside.

In the early 70's I had a 1966 fleetside, long wheelbase, and spent quite a bit of time in farm country. Most of the farmers that I knew had fleetside, long wheel base pickups, although a few had fleetside short wheelbase pickups. As was previously mentioned, these were used for work. On the farm, you could load more bales of hay onto a fleetside, long wheelbase, and there was more space for hauling hogs or cattle.
