It looks like a strip of websuit material about 18" long, 2" wide, and 1/2" thick. I'm assuming it was some sort of spacer between the door skin and the horizontal support halfway down the door. The passenger door has what looks like a thing paper booklet folded in half and shoved in that space. Is that supposed to deaden the "gong" sound when you close the door? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | sounds like something a PO added for something they thought was a problem [irritating] - the only factory material I've seen in a lot of different doors is a heavy tar paper like material, mostly stuck in spots on the back of the removable panel, never anything thicker .... the best way to lessen the door closing noise is to coat as much as reachable of the inside surface of the skin with an undercoating material

It ran the distance of the support bar but was only about 1" wide (the width of the bar). I just figured it was there to help reduce some outer skin vibrations. The doors also had the tar paper vapor barrier Bill mentioned. Oakland built Jimmy...

There is no way to put anything back unless I pull the latch mechanism and that isn't going to happen. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 153 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 153 | The Master Parts Catalog has a good illustration of the door on page 585 called "Conventional Cab - Exploded View". It shows the "insulation" material sandwiched between the door skin and the braces. A 16.xxxx section number part number is not offered. Mine were rock hard When I knocked them out. The indention shows that the material was soft when it was pushed in there at the factory.
So I have the same question. What is a suitable alternative material?
