I installed the exhaust manifolds on my truck (327) this weekend and use some new bolts I got from Napa. I asked the guy there for some exhaust manifold bolts and he when to the bin and came back with a hand full of bolts. I got all of them but 2 installed and was feeling pretty good about it. I ended up not counting the longer ones right and was short 2.
Anyway. These bolts I got have the 3 - on the heads. Dots or dashes..what ever ya call them. Will those bolts be OK to use for exhaust manifold bolts or do I need some other flavor? I have a buddy that was telling me the bolts were head treated or something so now I am worried I need to switch them out?

Not knowing any better, I always try to stay with the factory fasteners, when it comes to engine bolts.
For quick reference, three identifying marks = Grade 5, five identifying marks = Grade 8, per Carroll Smith's book entitled Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners and Plumbing Handbook. I have found this book very informative with regards to everything you need to know about fasteners.
I hope this information is helpful.
