I picked up a Holley glass bowl carb. Single barrel with a strange air cleaner adapter. Metal piece clamped to the top of the carb that adapts a single center stud aircleaner to the normal clamp on top.

The base is cast 2199B . The main casting is marked 6R 1664b. Does anyone know the original usage of the thing?

Assemble a wire brush, a strong light, a strong magnifying glass, and a pair of "young eyes"

Turn the carburetor such that you can read the word "Holley" on the bowl. Note that to your left is a boss into which is screwed the fuel inlet fitting. Clean the side of the boss that you can see with the wire brush, apply the light, glass, and young eyes; and you should be able to read (maybe), the word "LIST" followed by the carburetor identication number.

Google should then give you an application.

Even with my not so young eyes and a strong light I found it with your great instructions. Looks like it was from a 59 Rambler, 196 engine. It doesn't have th suffix letter listed but all the 1598s seem to be for that year/make.
