Good evening gents!

I recently acquired a -62 Dodge W300, which have served a number of years as a fire truck in Norway. My intention with it is to service what is needed to the point where it can be driven 10.000 miles to Mongolia and reintroduced to service, as a part of a charity event in approximately one year from now.

In this regard I am looking for service/repair manuals for the truck and the Barton American UA-50 Front Mounted Pump. Any general maintenance tips are also most welcome. The truck appears to be in a fairly good condition except for poor brake performance at the moment.

If any of you can help me out, or point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Some pictures of the old girl here.

Welcome to the FireBolt side of the group!!
I cannot give you any answers to you questions.
But would think most of the FireBolter's here will not care who made the truck, as much as helping you out with your questions.

Great looking truck and wish you luck on making it to the event.
We love to hear from people across the pond.

Don

Thanks for the replies. It seems the service manual for the car is available on Ebay, although the shipping to Norway is more expensive than the actual manual.

As for the pump I have had no luck. Basically I need to know how to operate and service it. I'm curious as to how I should prepare it for winter storage as well. I don't want anything to be damaged by freezing water.

Cerveza,

I'm familiar with the Barton UA-50 pumps. The "50" means it's a 500-gallon-per-minute pump, while the "UA" means it's a front-mount, with a pump water jacket that circulates warm coolant around the pump to keep it from freezing in the winter.

I have a Barton Manual as a .PDF I can e-mail you. Send me a PM with your e-mail address, and I'll forward the manual to you. I think you can click on my member name in this post, and it will offer you the chance to write a Personal Message.

I'm a big fan of the Barton pumps. Fascinating to see one mounted on a "foreign" truck. Very good looking!

-Michael

It seems Norway imported quite a few of these. Looking trough the papers it appears this one was taken out of service in -98, after a good 35 years in use.

On the bottom of the pump volute, there is a petcock. Open it and water should drain out. Close it, and put in a bit if antifreeze, and you'll be fine.

No meaning to hijack your thread Cerveza, but I too just got my hands of a 63 Dodge with a frontmounted Barton pump!

You lost me with your last sentence, But that OK!
We still love to hear about trucks that have earned their keep and still earning it.

Google is cool also.
It has a translation dictionary.

"Fun to see more Norwegians here! Where are you at?"

Hehe! smile Thanks! I will start a new thread as I'll begin the work on my truck. It will be cool to make contact with other old firetruck owners.

Ah! I'm a firefighter i Molde fd. Its a smallish town on the northwest side. They bought this one new in 63, and did service up to 95. Then it was given away to the fd in our neighbor town, for them to shine it up and put in their fire museum. But that didnt go so well because of various resons. Anyhow, the truck was almost up for grabs, and after alitte back and forth I was a proud owner of a ton of work! But its at least back home where it belongs and just waiting to shine again!
