I have a "46" PU with a later 235 and possibly a later four speed transmission as well. I have lost the gear that threads on to the side of the transmission that drives the speedometer cable.
I want to know what I should be looking for in a replacement. Will gears from a three-speed fit on my four-speed? Are there differences between different years? How do I tell what year my transmission is?
ALSO: there is a grease zerk on the top of the transmission. What for? Am I supposed to fill the trans. with grease?

If your tranny does npt have the reverse lever, it's not original.

Does your tranny have a granny gear(sm420)? I can send you a pic of a SM-420 speedo gear if you'd like. Zerk fitting? Can't imagine why? Would be interested in seeing a pic of this?

There should be casted numbers on the side and stamped numbers on the back if it's a SM420 to help you determine what year your tranny is.
