I am putting my head back on and looking at the rocker assy. and wonder how the oil gets from the block( pg 8-10shop manual ) to the pipe in the middle of the rocker. It was oiling fine before the head went so I was just courious. Its a 1956 235 block 3837004 with a 1957 3836848 head and I have the 1958 truck manual.

My 56 has a tube behind the push rod cover. One end threads into a fitting just above the rear camshaft bearing. The other threads into a fitting right underneath the supply tube that curves over the rocker shaft. Mine uses a head bolt with a hollow center so the oil can pass through.

I was wondering how it got thru the head to the rocker assy. I didnt see a hollow head bolt on the reassembly . I am gona guess the oil comes into the head bolt at #2 torq position and travels up thru the bolt hole to a hole near the top of the head and over to the hole where the tube goes up to the rocker assy. Anyway when it went back together there was oil coming out the rocker assy. I was happy.

Pre '68 Dave will give the best answer on this one - the combination of the 1956 block and the 1957 head should work fine with a 1955-57 rocker arm assembly.
