It's always been a dream of mine to own an old truck, there's just something really special about these old beauty's. We bought this baby in Saskatchewan this past summer. We had heard about a guy that has quite a collection of trucks on his property. So we gave him a call and told him we were coming out to "shop". So off we went, quite a long journey, but worth the drive. We bought this 1951 GMC 5 window 1/2 ton. Even though we will tear it down to hot-rod it, we thought for fun we should try and get it running, just to hear what the old girl sounds like. It only took about 10 minutes to get it running. How cool. We've started tearing it apart. now the work begins!!

Great truck! So glad that she will be used, loved, and appreciated. Another nice one saved!

Welcome to the 'bolt. You've come to the right place for the info you may need in your project. It's fun to swap stories, learn and share.

Some very nice pics in your photostream. thumbs_up

Welcome to the group Jenny, I just read your story about the GMC. It really does my
heart when I hear about someone getting their life back on track and starting to realize
some of their dreams.
Sounds like you've got a great partner there to hold hands with on the second half of your
journey.
Check in with this here Stovebolt bunch whenever you guys have a question they're sure
to be a help throughout your project.

Looked thru you album and your pictures are great, you've really got a good eye for just
the right shot. Looking at the shots of that country makes me want to jump in my '50 and
take about a month driving thru Canada before the sand runs out of my hourglass.

So once again, welcome to the Stovebolt young lady and keep us posted on your
progress. And don’t forget, a picture is worth a thousand words!

Welcome Jenny, nice truck. I've heard that they're all in Saskatchewan, prolly all picked over by now. Good luck with it and yes, you need to to get your hands dirty.

Lovely truck you got there. If you haven't considered parting with the power-pack yet, I'm interested. Of course "free" is a good price. (I wouldn't even think of charging you to haul it off.) On the other hand negotiation is fun, too. (703-641-8940)

It would be a long way to tip a rarey like yours, even if it does start (which I understand, it does)! These old Chevys are strong, but in my limited experience, after a few years sitting in a field, they can get...moody? Either that or your mechanic is every bit as skilled as you say he is.

I'm green to this site (isn't it wonderful?) myself too, but I've yet to see anything but a positive and polite attitude by everyone. Nairy a troll has announced its ugly presence to stink up the pleasant atmosphere. Good people, here.

Restoring an old Chevy truck is a mission for people who just need a few more problems in their life.
