Has anyone tried or looked into running these on the old 18" split rims? They would need tubes & flaps.

Maybe old rim is to narrow?

Any other thoughts...looking for some options besides 19.5" rims & tires and keeping the 32-33" dia. tires.

Those would be way too wide for the original wheels.

I believe that most hear will recommend getting rid of the split rims, otherwise known as widow makers.
I know when I get to that stage I will be looking for one piece rims. I have heard to many horror stories.

Yeah. I bit that bullet a while ago. I have LT265/70R17 tires on 17x8 rims. It's about a 31" setup.
I still have my original 3-piece rims (7.50x17) and tube tires. It's just difficult to always find a tire shop that's willing to work with them, so I have a modern wheel/tire combo.

YES and NO.

Not all multi-piece rims are bad, only those in bad shape and all Firestone RH5* rims. It's not correct to call all multi-piece rims "split" rims or "widow makers".

Here's a tech tip with some good info about the different types.

From that tech tip here's a chart with numerous milti-piece rim designs that are OK, and the Firestone RH5*

I personally like single piece tubeless wheels but I also have no problem running good two and 3 piece rims. Sometimes it makes the most sense to stick with what you have.

I'm not sure that 18" wheels were ever made in the RH5° design. There is nothing wrong with other with multi piece wheels. I made the switch to tubeless a lot earlier than most fleets because they have less flats, but I still have multi piece wheels on my old jalopies.

Well found 4 dually 6x19.5 rims with well worn tires...but the price was right. Was from bread van to PO GMC 3500, he used most of the rubber and then put them up for sale.

Just picked up 2 nice 8r19.5 Mich. tires from RV owner. Will keep looking until I have 6 wheels & 6 tires.
