Im not all that familiar with trucks (never owned one).I found this one on craigslist.

Guy says its low geared and only does about 55mph,but says he will throw in a freeway geared rear out of a 74.Says he will take $1800.Is that to much? (confirmed via email truck has no rust or dents and has new oak wood in bed)

Well, I have a 61 half ton that I paid $4500 for. It too has no rust (or very little) but it has one slight dent. Mine's mostly original however, including the engine and transmission. No suspension upgrades or anything. I bought it in Washington and had it shipped home to Alberta Canada. If he's really being honest and it actually does have "no rust or dents" then to me, $1800 is a really good deal. Be careful though. My first truck (also a 61 Chevy) I was told by the owner over the phone that it had very little rust, and only a few dents, and was "really solid". I ended up buying it, and after owning it for a year, found out it was solid alright, solid Bondo. There were holes in the floor, and the cab mounts and floor supports were so badly rotted out that the cab shook when i went over large bumps. And I paid alot more than $1800 for that truck (then again, I bought it here in Canada, old cars seem to be pricier here.) Check it out in person. Get right underneath it, check the floor, the cab supports, rocker panels, everything. If the owner doesnt mind, run a magnet over the body to see if theres any body filler, check especially the lower parts of the front fenders and doors, and the rockers. Take it for a drive too if you can.

One more crucial area to check for rust and/or bondo would be the top of the windshield. I lucked out here too. Let me know how it goes!

There is one thing you can do when shopping for a older truck take a cow magnet with you and a smooth cloth rag. If you suppect there might be body filler in the doors or fenders use the rag and magnet trick if it does not stick be aware of what the seller is trying to tell you as it could be rust or filler hidden under the paint job. Look down the sides to see if there wavie or washboard looks to the panels. Take a light and shine in in the dark corners of the insise or outside of the truck for signs of rust or damage from a sloppy repair. There are a lot of very honest people in this hobby and on the flipside some really slime buckets too.
On your 60-66 trucks look for rust build up on the front fenders and inside the floor, kick panels and on the back corners for rust. Again take a light for looking in these areas even in the day time.
