I have disk brakes all around and recently purchased a power brake kit to go with them but the clutch pedal is not included. I have to get that separately. I am keeping the manual trans but I will need a clutch pedal set up. Much thanks to anyone who can guide me in the right direction.

Mike B | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 | Mr. Mike, The truck that I am working on is a 1939. I have a 1954 235 w/T5. I changed out the suspension and brake to a IFS w/disk brakes and the rear has disk brakes as well. DITY thread Bread | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | Bread, 1939 still has the common pivot shaft for the brake and clutch pedals to swing on. If your not using this I can't advise on what you need to do. Have you talked to the brake booster supplier to see what they recomend? Maybe someone else can jump in and help. I kinda jump the gun on this one when I purchased the brake kit with out thinking this through.

I purchased my underfloor stuff from him but I only need one pedal. Seems to me I remember seeing some for both pedals?? You can check at www.piratejack.netAnd they have good prices.

They have all the brackets and set up parts etc. Look in any of the hot rod mags or Street Scene mag for their ad. | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 | Morning, Thanks for the info provided. AChipmonk, I hit up Pirate Jack and they didn't have what I am looking for. Their stuff is a whole lot cheaper then what I have been looking at. Too bad that they can't help me. Thanks for the help. WBrowne, Thanks for the info on ECI , I contacted them as well and Mr. Ralph was really helpful and identified exactly what I needed. He even suggested what I needed to make the mounting easier. Thanks all for the help and advice. Perhaps it'll be of some inspiration if other modifications are needed or help someone else on a tight budget. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=268323&page=3I am modifying a used aftermarket 49-54 truck M/C + brake pedal bracket to suit my needs. Not much aftermarket stuff available for 42-46. | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 | Plan9, Thanks for the link to the Jalopyjournal. This guy, Little Terry has done a lot to his truck and I am pretty impressed with his adapter plate which also help bolt down his clutch/brake pedal assembly. I have disc brakes all around and I will require a booster. I do not think that a booster will be able to be placed on the original cutch/brake pedal assembly. That will take some toying around with but at a later time. Thank you a lot for the info. I have seen something like that from a link within the Tech Tip that Mr. Sandoval submitted but the assembly was only attached to the bell housing. The E-brake adapter was nice to see because I always wondered how the parking brake was addressed with a T5 conversion. Bread | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | Bread... Which bellhousing are you running? 1939, or 1954? Obviously the 1939 bh has a provisions for the brake and clutch pedal, while the 1954 bh does not. For my 1940 gmc, I used the 1940 bell housing, same as 1939-1947, an adapter plate for the transmission( NV4500), and the brake and clutch pedals off a 1.5 ton 1946 gmc truck. Many gm trucks of the era used a frame mounted master cylinder. The brake pedal would pull a linkage rod forward towards the front of the vehicle. This rod was connected to a lever on the frame. The frame lever had another rod that went from it to a Master cylinder. The push rod for the MC faced rearward, so when you steped on the brake, it pulled the linkage rod and lever forward, causing the additional rod to push the MC. This sounds complicated, but the implication is that you can use a generic frame mount mc. This picture from the parts catalog shows most of the pieces. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/1929_54chevyparts/04/295.HTM | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 20 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 20 | Yah, I sat and pondered if something could be made or adapted to a stock truck pedal assembly. Ultimately in my case it made more sense to go with a frame mounted solution since transmission linkage would be in the way of the stock pedals. The ECI setup you linked to is a good solution to. Bread | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 269 | BigBad, The bell housing that came with the truck is a '37 . The brake/clutch set up looked pretty good but then again, I really didn't know what I was looking at until I took it apart. The bell housing that I have now is a '55 so that the T5 can fit it. The bell housing doesn't support the brake/clutch assembly. The hydraulic brake system schematic does look complicated and I studied it for a while till it made since to me. I am not a bright one but give me some time, I'll catch on. I am a simple person, measure it, bolt on or weld it in place, and lets move on. The information provided is a good lesson learned because I haven't seen anything like that before. Thank you. Pan9, Do you have a picture log of your truck? I would like to see some more of your truck. Some time in the next 10 years, I would like to find one for me. I don't think that the Mrs. will approve. By that time, I'll be good and retired. I just came off of the shifter bolts with a plate and bolted my aftermarket e brake to it. You might be able to do the same idea. I used the original peddles but I made my own mounting bracket that came off of the frame. It was a bit of work with lots of measuring but I am quite happy with it. I used the corvette aftermarket dual master cylinder with the fittings on both sides. I can email you some pictures if you like. | | |
