I am trying to remove steer column and shifter(four speed on floor)will steer tube come off easy or need to remove unit and drop forward? How does floor shift remove? Oh also on brake peda removal does pedal rod just turn off of pivot arm? Mine wouldnt budge last night and I ran out of time. Thans for your help | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 115 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 115 | On my truck I removed the steering column as a unit. Unbolted it and dropped it forward. On the brake pedal, it comes straight out, it is a splined shaft. The nut on the bottom hold it on. The Factory Assembly manual has good pictures on how all this went together and is a great help in disassembly. I can't help on the floor shifter, mine is a column shift.

The steering column doesn't come out of the gearbox so take off the steering wheel, unbolt gearbox and drop out. Mine is a 4spd floor shift, I used my 2 post lift to raise the cab then rolled the chassis out from under it with the shifter still in place. If you don't have the option of lifting the cab that high maybe you could drop the trans out from underneath. Be careful, that trans is VERY heavy! I found also that shifter comes out after pushing down on [censored] dust cap at base and rotate 1/8 ccw it pulls out. | | |
