Are there any six volt strip lights that can be used for a safety stop light in the back window of an AD Truck cab?

I wasn't able to find any doing a search but you can mount a standard third light that uses a bulb and put a 6v bulb in it. You can get 21cp out of an 1129 6v bulb. The 1129 uses the BA15S socket.

When I was a kid, I thought these little traffic signals in the rear window were the cat's meow.

With some creative application of bulbs you can make your tail/brake light a lot brighter. The tail light on my '38 coupe is brighter than an 1157 and the brake is about the same as the 1157. I'm still at 6v.

I have those little funky tail lights. I have noticed that there are two socket holders for the inside. One is straight and used the small bulbs. The other is zig zagged so the stop light bulb can be larger. This may fit the bill. I just have not figured out how to put the sockets in the zig zag holder since they are sold separate and without the bulb socket. The zig zag holder is sold through Chevy Parts of America. Maybe just a simple phone call?

Is this your tail light? If so it's the same basic as my '38 coupe and the fix for you should be the same as mine was. No new parts required except for bulbs, just a bit of tweaking of the bracket. If the above is your tail light put a slight bend in the bracket that holds your sockets. Make the bend half way between the sockets and angle it toward the back of the housing. Bend a little at a time until you have room for a #81 bulb in the top socket (6cp) and a #1129 in the bottom socket (21cp). This will give you a 6cp tail light as opposed to the 3cp of a 12v 1157 and either a 21cp stop light (same as the 1157) or a 27cp stop light depending on whether your tail light stays on when the brakes are applied like my '38 does or if the tail light goes out.

One caveat is there IS a difference in how the housings mount so the shape at the back (mounting side) is a bit different. The car housing that I have provides enough room to make that bend. I've not adapted a truck housing bracket so while it SHOULD work there is the possibility it may not. Don't be real aggressive on your bend so that you can "un" bend it if necessary. If you decide to try that on your housing post here if it works for you and I'll write up a tech tip to submit to John and Peggy so everyone can benefit.

That is the funky little tail lights. I will work on bending the bracket and finding the 'more candle light bulbs' in 6 volt.

Keep in mind that you don't have to get the complete bulb fully inside the housing, just enough to clear the lens. The bulb closest to the lens will be the 1129 which is only on with the brakes so even a plastic lens should be OK. Just make sure it isn't actually touching the lens if it's plastic.

I got in trouble with a FARM USE plate, I don't live on a farm so I have a different plate on there now in the same location with a light on each side of the plate, can take a picture tomorrow if anyone's interested.

Here's the new version... Another view. The pictures don't show it but at night my home-job 3rd brake light(s) are really bright and they are at eye level so they are really visible. The three pieces are mounted directly to the board, all wiring runs underneath and behind the box. They are Guide brand license plate lights eliptical in shape with the insides painted bright white for greater reflectivity.
