I've noticed that the 2 bolts that mount the Rochester carb to the intake manifold on my 52' are about 1/4" further apart then the holes for the carb base, spacer and gasket.(One side of the carb base is broken off so the nut and washer will hold it down) Would this carb be from a car or is the manifold from a different motor?

The manifold sounds like its for a 235 and the cab is for a 216.

Sorry to be pedantic, Denny; and, I expect that Pre 68 Dave will correct me, but 1941-1949 235s had closer bolts, the same as used on all 216s (and even earlier engines).

1950 and later 235s had the wider bolt placement.

So, the carb could be from a pre-54 216 (used in cars and trucks) or from a pre-50 235 (used in trucks). Visa-versa on the manifold: most likely it came from a 50 or later 235 used on a car or truck.

Either way (and either explanation) the carb does not match the manifold.

Measure the bore of the carb and the bore of the manifold and I will bet they are different too.

The bolts measure 3" center to center. Is there a casting decoder for the manifolds? My engine is the correct 216. I can take the carb off and measure the bores.

Is it a replacement manifold?

I thought 216 manifolds had the horn mount tab?

Good eyes, DADS50,

Also, does the bottom of the exhaust manifold (the outlet) go straight downward (like 216s and early 235s) or does it angle slightly towards the rear of the truck (like later 235s and 261s)?

That is a really cool picture of your truck sitting in the woods.

the 270gmc that is the ashton came with a rochestor carb which didnt belong but worked. when i rebuilt the 270 i put on the correct zenith and sent the rochestor out to get rebuilt an was going to put that on my 51 235 on the dump since i had issues there. when the carb came back i was estatic on how the dump was going to run. i was greatly disappointed because it wouldnt run because the carb wouldnt fit the intake on the 235. i addressed that issue also but ow i have a good carb on the shelf i cant use use.

I've added some pix showing the bolts.

Tim: The intake casting numbers are: 3754844 (the 5 could be a 6).

The lower part of the manifold that connects to the exhaust appears to angle slightly toward the firewall.
Thanks for the help!

That manifold is for a 1958-62 235, 135hp.

Guess I should have said "later 235f" in my opening volley Tim.

Thanks for all your help guys! Guess it will work together since it was that way when I bought it. If I have any problems with the Rochester, what options will the 235 manifold give me as far as carbs?

You can get a Rochester set up for a 235.

You can also get a carter 2100s. Nice carb

Then there is also supposed to be a Stromberg, but I know nothing about it.

The Holley 1904 will also work, and was a factory install carb on GMC trucks.
