I have a '55 1st series. Plan to remove my doors and either rebuild the hinges or buy new after market hinges. A couple bolts do not come loose. The nut on the inside has broken loose and the bolt spins without coming out. There is no access to the hidded side of the nuts. There is no opening in the kick panel. Looking for some suggestions.

I was just hoping there was another way to gain access. Previously I asked about buying new hinges. The consensus was that the after market hinges were great quality. Plan to order a set of hinges, cut access, remove old hinges, secure nuts and install the new hinges.

I'm facing the same issue.
Anyone know another way,
or things to watch for when cutting access to the nuts?

If you drill the bolt heads until the hinge comes off, you will have access to where the captive nuts are, enabling you to replace them.

I think you will find that the brace behind the mount blocks your access to the mounting nuts. For an access, I would suggest cutting into the kick panel.

I'm not familiar with the first series and if originality isn't an issue, they remedied this in the 2nd series by leaving that side kick panel basically open and then fixed that with a tall thin cover plate.
I have mine out and could easily trace a pattern of what the factory evolved to. That might give you an idea for your cuts.
You need room if your replacing cages for the nut.(likely reason it just spins) so think bigger rather than just enough.

You could probably cut an access in the inner to outer cowl panel. When patched up, it would be out of sight.
