Any body out there have a modern part number for the fuel pump I need on my '52 GMC 470 series COE, with 302ci. engine. I just installed a new water pump on it, & decided to replace everything I could easily access now that the front of the truck is disassembled, ie: all hoses, belts, fuel pump etc. I have a AC part number "7007" for '50-'62 model trucks with air brakes. Also found the number "1537007", in a GMC Parts book. No one at the Parts houses i've been to, can do anything with these two numbers.

I don't know if this will help you or not. Back when I first got the 450 I was having intermittent fuel problems. I thought it was the fuel pump, and tracked down one. This was before you alerted me to the "stacked washer" fuel filter at the carb inlet. That turned out to be where my problem was so i never installed the pump, so this may or may not be correct for your application, or mine either. The pump I have is a non-vacuum assist model. It is a Carquest part number 531. It passed the "eye ball" test, but I don't know that it will actually fit. My parts guy used the GM numbers and some casting numbers I read off the pump to come up with that number.

Thanks Scott, but for some reason all the parts books i've come across list a separate part number for 450, & 470 series GMC's with full air brakes, versus one with hydraulic, or air, over hydraulic. I still had the box, from the fuel pump on your 450 series out in my shop, & was preparing to purchase the same for this 470, but noticed they (the older 531 pump, that was on your truck)& the exsisting pump on my 470 COE were alot different. The GMC Parts maunal list a prt. no. 1537007, while an older AC catalog I have list it as a AC number 7007. None of the parts houses around me can interchange that AC 7007 part number to a modern number.

I called a friend who works with in the national auto parts dist network and he confirmed that the correct fuel pump for your air brake equiped 470 is an AC 7007. He indicated that there was no "new" fule pump which cross references with this pump. His records inidcate this fuel pump was used only on GMC 400 and larger trucks with air brakes. We even checked a few of the mid 50s Hollander exchange manuals and even these manuals show this fuel pump as one off pumps for your truck.


I do see one seller on ebay has several NOS units for a fair price.

10-4, Bob, I saw that one, & one other on ebay. Was trying to find one locally, so I could get it quicker, with that AC 7007 number, but with no luck. Looks like I may have to go the ebay route. Thanks for checking that out for me. I'm curious as to why the air brake trucks have to have a different fuel pump. Does your friend know why. I noticed these AC 7007 fuel pumps have that knob looking piece on the front portion of the pump body. Haven't removed mine yet to see what that is.

Be prepaired to have any "old" fuel pumps rebuilt before you install them. The new fuel additives eat the old style rubber.

10-4, I went ahead, & pulled the trigger on the ebay fuel pump. Bought two of them, so I'd have a spare.

Spanky, could you take a look and compare the lever arms and stroke between the one you have and a regular unit? I'd like to know what the difference in these is.

I looked in a 450-470 series maintenance manual,& can see that the lever/rocker arm is shaped different, on these Type "AH" pumps & is at a different angle than on a regular Type "AF" pump. Also the knob looking piece on the "AH" is a breather. When they get here I'll check for a difference in the stroke, of this "AH" type, & the regular type "AF". Looks as if it mounts upside down compared to the other.

Would your engine be different internally than a non-air brake 302? I can't figure why the lever would have a different angle than a typical 302. I don't have a dog in this hunt, just trying to learn something.

I don't know Scott. I'm curious as to why the pumps are different myself. Haven't found anyone old enough, that can tell me anything yet. Do you have a Maintenance Manual models 450-470 (prt. no. X-5209)yet. Shows a internal photo of both style fuel pumps. Also shows the vacuum assist pump. So there was actually three different fuel pumps that could have been found on these engines.

Got my model "AH" AC fuel pumps today. I'll get one installed tomorrow, then I can start putting the front end back together. I happened to find two nice 10.00 - 20 tires yesterday to replace the dry cracking pair I now have, on the front.
