Hi,
I got an awesome block heater that is to be installed in place of one of the freeze plugs. How do those guys come out? Without doing any damage, of course. Is there a preferred one to choose to remove for installation of the little heater? thanks, Scot

Take a drift and hammer and hit it near the outside edge, it will turn sideways in the hole and then you can grab it with channel lock pliers and lever it out against the block.

I have a couple 261's with genuine GM block heaters in them and they are in the hole closest to the front. The others may not have sufficient room in the jacket for the element.
