Awhile back i though i read something about being able to over extend and ruin the master cylinder? im afraid i might have done this because i pushed the break all the way to the floor at one point. How would i check to see if the brake cylinder is ruined or not? | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Its doughtful you damaged it by overextension, but its a good idea to o-haul or replace it when you are doing brake work & pumping the master cyl. like that. You will push the pistons & cups into areas in the cyl. that have not been used for a long time & are full of crud & corrosion. The master cyl. will fail in a short time. I purchased the tiny honing tool, found at the usual suspects in your area (FLAPS), commonly used when rebuilding master cylinders & wheel cylinders. If the bore is not corroded, to badly, the hone works great. Nice tool for minimal investment. | | |
