The model you want to look for is the standard cab long bed, as that frame has the proper wheelbase. You may want to do a little salvage yard hunting, as there are many good upgrades to the S chassis using factory parts, particularly brake and axle upgrades. "98 and up Blazers and some 2wd pickups have 4 wheel disk brakes that are a direct bolt in. Also, trucks with RPO ZQ8 have a larger anti-roll bar, stiffer springs w/2" drop, and a faster ratio steering box. I'll have to look the part number up, but GM also offered the ZQ8 parts as a service kit. I don't know if it is still available.

I just traded it on a deal I made. If you are interested in one of those kits . II actually had the frame cut to size because I could not find the correct one , or well I got impatient . | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 | that is the way my luck is....thanks | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 | i have a 48 gmc 1/2 ton... i want to lower it a few inches... i also want to put a v8 in it...and maybe put some 5 lugs rims on instead of six...would it be better to get a s10 frame to put under..or add parts to the old frame...this is my first big project...i am learning things on my own...any info would be a big help...thanks | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | I'd be inclined to go the S-10 route for all the reasons previously mentioned. You get modern running gear, lots of parts available for the V-8 swap, front disc brakes, maybe even rear disc's, lots of bolt on's for dropping height, etc. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 | i know you can buy something for the front, that drops it 3", but if i want to drop it more...also how do i change from 6 lug to 5 lug...i have some nice pontiac rims that would like nice on it...i know the rear you can put the axle over the leaf springs. and can get blocks for it..or get a s10 rear end... | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 438 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 438 | 696969 You can go over to killbillet.com and search for s10 swaps. Some are trash but several show detailed picture buildups which are quite helpful. They butcher a lot of good old iron over there but some have great fab skills. I don't recall him doing a 37 on one. They have a subsection on AD trucks 48-54. Several builds using s10 frames. The s10 utilizes 5 x 43/4" bolt pattern wheels so you get 5 bolt wheels. Personally, I'm building a '51 GMC 5 window on a '83 standard cab long wheel chassis. I want to put my '42 Chevy 1/2 ton shortbed on this chassis. Anyone done a 4x4 version? I know I will have to cut down the chassis wheelbase.

That is what you will need if your going with radial tires to help keep your truck in the road. This is what i used on my '48 along with gas shocks and hangers Good luck! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 118 | thanks for the info... | | |
