Hi All,

A while ago a tree fell on my still running 51 truck. It collapsed the cab and was written off. I just use it as a farm truck now.

I have come across what I think looks like a 33 chev ute or RPU. I found some info here:

http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/early_stovebolts.htm

But just wondering what would be needed to mate the original 33 gearbox and closed drive line to the later 216. The 216 currently has the SM420 and an open driveline. Also, does anyone know what the brakes are like on the 33 chev if they are hydraulic or still cable?

Here, have some pics of both as I know pics are welcome.

http://pugetsoundvintagechevrolet.org/Programs/6%20cylinder%20engines%20with%20photos.pdf

This says:

A full pressure engine can be mounted in a 1931 –1936 car or truck by using a 1938 –1947 truck bellhousing. This matches the engine to the 1931 –1936 passenger and truck transmission.

Although my engine isnt full pressure though...hmmm...

A 216 and a full pressure 235 have the same bolt pattern on the back of the engine, so a 1938-46 bellhousing will work in your case.
My concern is if your 36 uses a standard or master transmission. If it is a standard then the 1938-46 bellhouring will not work.

1936 was the first year for hydraulic brakes.

Hi Dave,

It is a 33 RPU so not sure what transmission they use. I have access to a 38 Chev truck bellhousing.

I was just thinking that that is most likely a right hand drive car, so you will most likely need a bellhousing from a right hand drive truck for the clutch fork and pedals to work.
