I need to replace the Bed Steps on my 1961 GMC. The issue is that these Steps seem to be longer than what is readily available. The horizontal length of the Vertical section that bolts to the Bed side is 29-1/2 inches long. Most Steps for the 1960-66 LWB Stepside have a measurement of 24-1/2 inches. This box may have come from a earlier truck. Maybe 1955-59 not sure of the history. Anyone have any information. Thanks

Sounds like you have a 127" wheel base, so you need the longer steps, than were found on the 115" short wheel base trucks with a stepside bed.

I DO Have a 127 inch Wheelbase. The problem is - If you contact someone like LMC or Classic Parts of America, their "So Called" LWB Running Board / Step horizontal dimension for the vertical section that bolts to the bed side is 24-1/2 inches. Whereas this same dimension on the steps I need to replace on my 1961 GMC is 29-1/2 inches long. Comments anyone ?

There is no supplier of aftermarket steps for a 127" wheel base stepside truck...only the 115" wheel base stepside steps are being reproduced.

Perhaps you have the very rare 9 foot stepside bed instead of the standard 8 foot long bed model. I believe there is a picture of one on this link about 1/3 of the way down the page:

If this is the case I’m sure there will never be a reproduction as there would be extremely limited demand. I have seen aftermarket long bed steps, but they are listed as fitting 55-59 only. I’m not sure what would be different between 55-59 and 60-66, perhaps it could be modified to work. Here’s an example:

Of course if you have a 9 foot bed it won’t help in any event.

The box on my 61 GMC is an 8 foot long bed for sure. In 1960 the fenders were moved rearward and the Steps were made longer. For that reason the steps for an 1955-59 second series bed will not work. However from 1960 to 1966 the longbed steps should be the same ??

The steps are different lengths on the 115" wheel base and the 127" wheel base on the 1960-1966 Chevy step side beds.

Jim, you are probably looking for the same running boards I have. Mine are original and still on the truck, so the measurement I get is 28-1/2". They are thankfully still solid, so I haven't shopped for any.

Have you tried contacting "RJ" on this site? He has lots of parts for those early sixties trucks. Good luck!

I hope I don't regret making this offer. There is a freshly placed 1962 C30 127" wheelbase stepside in the local salvage yard. I looked at the steps today and thought of you. The steps are in great shape. Here is a picture of the truck.

I was just trying to find out information on the different lenghts of steps, since I was having trouble locating some.(Old or new) I am located in Nova Scotia, Canada so before I start sourcing in the States I will see what I can find here in the north.
