Here's a picture of my 1950 3800, a WIP. I'm just about ready to start the re-assembly process which is when the real fun begins (and the missus stops complaining about the dirt). Hows your project coming along? http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m545/carmental2/IMG_0758.jpg | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 59 | Mine has been coming along.. Ive got the frame assembled.. the passenger side has all new panels (tack welded in with mig). All my panels to do the driver side came in last week. Saturday i got the old panels cut out and braced.. Winter showed up this week and havent seen the sun since sunday. maybe this weekend will be nice and i can get some panels fitted.. then i will tig weld it all together and and start doin a rough assembly and fire off the motor just to make sure everything is ok and inline before paint and body work when it warms back up come spring time.. I also need to update the photobucket album. | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 | that motor looks pretty nice, almost a shame to start it up. What kind of paint did you use on that? I noticed too that you replaced the spring shackles - was that a tough job? I've been thinking I should do it but the replacement kits aren't cheap and truth be told, I'm kind of lazy. | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 59 | thanks! Truth be told that is Ford grey from O Riellys.. Turned out nice though. The shackles werent bad at all.. Just got a hammer and beat them out.. It did take some good blows to move them at first. I had to replace front and rear shackles and all bushings. With axles off you could move the springs side to side.. They were almost past the point of worn out. | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 153 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2011 Posts: 153 | Have not worked on my 1950 3800 much since the summer, but I've been having driving it until last week when the snow came to the Twin Cities. So I think it's in the garage till spring. Hope your enjoying your truck. | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 | Glad to hear the 3800 was on the road. Its 18 above in Minneapolis right now, and tomorrow promises to drop down to a blistering 3 degrees. Take a drive for the rest of us that have our toys locked away until spring. | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 75 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 75 | I was driving my 49 3800 around quite a bit, until a rear wheel cylinder puked. I ordered both rear wheel cylinders from NAPA and installed them. On the test drive to check the brakes, the water pump gave up. Back to NAPA for the water pump. It came in the other day and I installed it. Back on the road now. | | | | Joined: Apr 2000 Posts: 199 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2000 Posts: 199 | Mine isn't licensed so I run around the farm here with it. '47 3800 with GMC 248. I love the fact that even in the cold, I pull the choke, pump a few times, and hit the starter.
I love the work you've done on your truck. I'm starting a 49 3800 panel this week and plan to do strip it down to the frame soon. | | |
