I recently had a slight mix-up on an order from Jim Carter Truck Parts at www.oldchevytrucks.com. While I have had good luck with all the other places I have dealt, the manner in which Jim Carter handled my problem was good beyond compare. They were responsive, and fair above and beyond what anyone could expect. From this point forward, I will always to them first for all parts.

ggfossen,

It is good of you to post your experience. Some of us have been buying from Jim Carter and others for many years. Jim Carter provides one of the widest selections of parts at competitive (if not the best) prices, and his company's customer-service is up among the best. I have never received anything but complete satisfaction from Jim Carter when there was a mix-up or mistake (by them or by me) and NEVER a problem in the rare case when a part was not satisfactory.

I had a similar experience with both Jim Carter and Brothers. Both places went way above and beyond to correct the issues.

I've dealt with JimCarter since 1994. I still rate them up at the top but prices have escalated and the discount not so effective as it once was.......if you do the math, discounts, shipping ect then you can usually find whats best for you.
PM me if you want examples.(my recent tie rod end experience is a good one regarding some top players) Anyway, Please understand, nothing "bad" about Jim but if I'm spending my hard earned money I'm sure going to "be comparative". Just saying....

Alvin,

I agree regarding price plus quality plus service.

I also buy from Classic Parts and Chevs of the 40s - their customer service has also been similarly exceptional. And, Classic Parts has free shipping for orders over $350 (maybe Jim Carter will eventually do the same, again).

Thumbs up Alvin, I'm sure Jim Carter would agree. I've found that there isn't one single
vendor that can give you the best prices on everything. When I place a large order it would
almost always have to get spread out over a half dozen vendors in order to get the best
prices. But on a large order price comparison of all the items can get to be a major chore
so I usually look for the best price on the largest item and bite the bullet on all the other
small stuff.

Jim Carter's service has been as the others have stated always fair. Their pricing like all
the others is a lot like what you see when shopping at the food stores. One item may be
less at store 'A' and more at store 'B' and a different item that is cheaper at store 'B' is more
at store 'A'. So it's kind of like a dog chasing his tail. If you took six of our vendors and
ordered 25 of the same items from all six of them the bottom line will probably come out
pretty close to the same even though the individual prices vary.
If one guy could supply everything that they sold cheaper than the next guy they would
have what is known as a Wal-Mart, oops, I meant a monopoly.

It's refreshing to read this thread regarding peoples positive experiences when dealing with a vendor.
Sadly it's usually the opposite, all too often you read of bad problems, poor aftersales support etc.

I for one have had nothing but great service from most if not all the American based parts suppliers i've dealt with.
(Lucky? I don't know...)
Something i'm particularly glad of considering the logistics involved.
In fact so much better than some of the UK based companys i've bought from.

Even when there was quite a considerable problem regarding a completely wrong part (a dual circuit master cylinder) the vendor,
(Master Power Brakes) then sent the correct unit, by UPS, at considerable expense due to the size and weight of it to my front door even though they do not normally ship directly to the UK.
They even offered to pay for any import taxes incurred.

I'm impressed to say the least, and I got to keep the wrong part to use/sell or whatever I wanted to do with it....

I always take the time to e/mail any companies I deal with to thank them for their service if I feel they warrant it.
In all cases I've received a polite reply thanking me for the positive feedback.

Praise where praise is due.....

Unfortunately, I have had the same problem with them. Because they are the only vendor I have a had problem with, I limit orders to them as a result. It is also interesting the few people here who have had a similar problem with them.

GMCAMARO,

I am confused. I did not open this thread as a "complaint" against Jim Carter. I opened it as a compliment for fine service.

Further, I did not elaborate on the mix-up. Ergo, no one on this thread could have experienced "the same problem."

Virtually all businesses will have problems, if one has enough exchanges with them. The important matter is how those problems are handled after the fact. Jim Carter Truck Parts did a fabulous job of fixing things, and that is what counts for me.

Your point is well taken, Gary. I thought that was your intent with the thread, but I'll admit a couple of the other posts had me confused as well.

I've had great luck and excellent service from Classic Parts, Chevs of the 40's and Jim Carter's. All great vendors at the time of sale as well as returns/exchanges. I keep going back to Classic Parts however because I'm just more adept at navigating their website and love the ease of using their paperback catalog. Can't go wrong with any of these.
