Fellow Big Bolters:
I am searching for any and all manuals applicable to my
1946 2-ton. If you have found these, or have good copies for sale, I would be happy to hear from you. Many of the sites or info listed on Stovebolt are applicable to smaller trucks. Our transmissions, air brakes, two-speed rear ends, chassis and other things are often not covered in the kind of detail I need to really understand what I am looking at. In my looking today I was in the best bookstore in the country and there was a 1952 Motor's manual for <$20 in very good shape, and a very detailed shop manual for most vehicles made between 1910 and 1935, same price. I would be happy to buy either of these and send them to you if interested.

I have a 1951 Motor's Truck & Tractor Manual. It has a section on Bendix-Westinghouse Air Brakes, A section on driving axles including Eaton, and Timken two speeds and double reductions. In the Chev section the 4 speed unit is covered and there is a seperate section on various Clark, Fuller, Spicer Brown-Lippe and Warner 3 to 8 speed unit and auxiliary transmission. The Chev section also covers general chassis issues-brakes, front axles, engines, driveshafts, etc. Let me know what you need and I will try to copy for you. I am looking for a parts book covering my 1948 Chev 1 1/2 ton Loadmaster(4000 series)if you happen to see one anywhere that I can buy.

I, too, need any and all info I can find for my 46 2 ton. I'm a bit laid up right now after back surgery, so I need to collect as many parts, paperworks as I can.

Dachshund,
Man we have the exact same truck and I have collected many technical articles from these forums. Plus, my truck was last driven in 1975. I'd say we are about
even, truckwise. A great place to start is: gmheritagecenter.com I downloaded
55 pages of drawings and technical details specific to our 6400 series 1946 trucks.
Free, pal. Let me know what else you are intending to get to and I will forward
links and attachments I have discovered. You got a hellauva' deal it appears.
My truck was a rat, bird, and wasp hotel for most of 30 years so when I trailered it
home from Loma, CO, a couple of months ago it was a bonafide HazMat site. It took a week to sanitize the inside. But, progress every day!! I have had three back surgeries so I know that it can be a slow road back. Happy to help anyway I can. Thank you for your service. LevisPop aka Mark Schlemmer

I've been MEANING to get out there and dig into her for a couple years, now! Just never have been able to do much more than a tune up. I did have her running for a short time, but the wiring is so bad, I thought it wize to shut it down and wait for funds to rewire before she caught on fire and burned to the ground!
My seat was "destuffed", so I need to get that done, too.

Just wish I had that nice, warm shop to work in......

The typical Chevrolet repair manual for 1941 trucks should cover everything you need to know about 1941-47.1. I can't find mine right now, but I believe they cover everything from cars, to pickups, to the large trucks.

For more specific knowledge, you really need to know what your looking for. I have side manuals specifically related to rebuilding or repair of hydrovacs, 2 speed rear ends, hydramatic transmissions and so on.

There have been many changes to "Goverment Motors" in the past few years but when I acquired my 46 Two Ton in 2004 I got on the internet and found that GM had a contractor that they had authorized to make available the specs and operators manual of old stovebolts like mine. I got copies sent free! Don't know if you can still do it but give it a try on the General Motors web site.

You can see my truck on the gallery page under George Berry's 46 Two Ton.

Fundytides:
I have not checked my post in a while. Sorry. Can you tell me your Volume Number on the 1951 Motors Truck and Tractor book? As I said, I am looking for one to cover a '46 and so if I knew the '51s Vol. # it might help me when looking on eBay, etc. Also, I do believe the 1.5 ton truck info is available via the Old Car Manuals Project which is referenced elsewhere on StoveBolt. If I see what I think will help I will PM you. Thanks, LevisPop

No Problem! It is the "Fourth Edition" green cover "Motor's Truck & Tractor Repair Manual". It covers Chev and most others form 1936 to 1951. By the way, I have now discovered that my truck is a 1947 2 Ton (QW) not a 1948 1 1/2 Ton as the seller thought.

When buying a Motor's Book or Parts Book it's always better to get one a year or two newer than your truck. That way if there were any mid year changes you'll have that info.
