The steering gearbox/column is out of the truck. There were no issues with the steering so I don't plan to open up the gearbox but I would like to change the lube. I've got it draining right now and man is it thick. Would it hurt any seals, etc. to put some solvent in the box to clean it out? I would then fill it with new lube and drain once or twice to make sure the solvent is out. Another thought is just to heat it to thin the lube.

I just did mine. I used mineral spirits in mine. Got it pretty clean. I used John Deer corn head greese in mine. It's what every one in this site said to use. So far so good.
