What type of 1.5 ton truck do you have? Rockauto.com has a few 1 1/4" bore master cylinders for 1952 1-ton trucks. Maybe someone with a parts book or an interchange book will post information? | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,972 Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator | Big Bolt Forum Co-moderator Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,972 | I think a lot of vendors must sell them. I went to Jim Carter and got this: http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/cart/index.asp?cat2=10187&path=1947+-+Early+1955+Truck+Parts%2FMechanical%2FBrakes%2FMaster+Cylinders+and+Repair+Kits
Don't know why that link isn't showing up as a click on link. Try copy paste. But go to Jim Carter online if the link doesn't work. They have a master cylinder for $99. The 1-1/2 ton trucks use the 1-1/4" bore MC's. If you MC is not pitted you can rebuild it with a kit from NAPA...if it is pitted you can send it to Serria Specility Automotive and have Joe put a brass sleeve in it. New MC's are hard to find for the big trucks. Thanks for keeping me straight! Mike B | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 55 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2011 Posts: 55 | thanks for the help. its a 1.5 ton without power brakes. Its my first chevy, I know the early fords use the same master cylinder from 1-2 ton trucks. I removed the master cylinder and found it is one from a 1/2 ton so rebuilding it is out the question and the only ones I found so far only go up to a 1 ton but I did not check jim carters, thanks for the help | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 6,189 | Matthew, Are you sure you don't have a Hydrovac (power brake booster) mounted on the frame? I thought they were standard equipment on the Medium and Heavy Duty trucks...am I wrong? Quite a few members from this site have used them. Contact Geoff @ (508)788-9409. | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 55 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2011 Posts: 55 | yep positive. I suppose it might have had one when it was new, but it does not now. I personally am a gmc man but some years back I was given a 51 ford f6 two ton and am much more versed in the ford medium duty trucks than the gm versions. On the fords power brakes were an option on the 1.5 tons, chevys I really am not sure. | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 55 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2011 Posts: 55 | Thanks for the help guys. being my first gm medium duty I am still learning all the good parts places. | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 165 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 165 | Napa can get the larger master cylinder, thats where I got mine. | | |
