So, I'm curious about you fellow Canuck truck owners. I've have a couple of Canuck Stovebolts, and both of them have a much larger air cleaner than our friends down south. No doubt because GM knew just how robust we are up here, and put a big air cleaner on our trucks so we could continue to drive in the dust.

So, both trucks I've had, have one of these under the hood:

Now, one truck was from Grand Prairie Alberta, and I think this one's been in BC for ever (Panel). What are the odds that they would both have a Donaldson air cleaner on them, if they didn't come that way?

What have you folks found?

That’s interesting. I’ve seen plenty of oil bath air cleaners in Alberta all of which look like this but have never seen that sticker you showed. I can’t see from your picture but is the overall shape/style on that one the same as mine? Possibly GM Canada sourced them from that company.

My truck had the heavy duty air cleaner but not with that sticker. original truck air Cleaner Incidentally, my 38 Chev Master also has the heavy duty air cleaner that is not listed as standard equipment in the manuals.

Curt, yup, its the same shape as that.

I guess its coincidence then. Perhaps the Donadson made cleaners were used commonly on industrial engines, welders or something else plentiful.

Guess I'll never know, unless I can get my Panel unto 88 mph.

My '49 Pontiac also had a huge oil bath air cleaner not listed in the USA, but shown in the Canuck shop manual.

Hello Christopher:

Here's a shot of the engine bay of my 1950 Chevy 1300 - it's a Southern Alberta truck, and the air filter is (near as I can tell) original.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Nice truck Fraser!

Is that a GMC radiator I spy under the hood?

Learn something new every day - yes, it is a GMC radiator. Until now, I wasn't aware of the differences.

I'm finding that these trucks evolve in real time...

Yeah, there are a lot of neato differences between our Canadian trucks, and the ones down south. Plus, 60 years of 'gitn'er fixed makes for some interesting stuff!
