Been a busy week, decided to scrap the s-10 frame swap. Removed the complete truck from the s-10 frame and loaded it up onto a original frame with the hiedts IFS. On my way tp storage to get the original bed stuff.
Wow. What can I say. Today my '51 1/2T Burb steers like new.
New King pins, Check. Drag link kit, Check. Tie rod end kit, Check. Steering box adjusted and lubed, Check. New Leaf springs Check. Shackle kits, Check. Alignment, Check
And today ------ New Shocks, Check
I guess the only thing left would be to replace the bias ply nylon tires with steel belted radials --- then I'll be better than new.
Made trim pieces to hold rubber wind lace out of 1/4" plywood - kick panels, top of the door and rear edge of the door. Soaked them in poly to prevent delamination, cut out speaker holes in the kick panels and pre-drilled all attach holes to make assembly easy after being upholstered.

Ol' Blue is BLUE again!!! Got the cab, fenders, bed, tailgate and misc. pieces painted. Now it's time to start putting the puzzle back together. This started out as a weekend engine swap over two years ago! My how time flies!

There was a small leak in one of the power steering hoses (the high pressure one). When the engine started and the pump began to built up pressure the leak became greater and eventually the pump went dry and the bearing began to squeal and smoke. I cut the engine and we replaced the hose and the pump. That was back in May, it took me this long to figure out Youtube. I'm about 90% finished with the truck now. I plan on oak bedrails and driving it down to Blanco for Christmas with a big Christmas wreath on the radiator. Now that I'm a professional Youtube poster I'll post another as I drive it down the road.
Here are some pictures of the new Blue paint. Still in pieces, but going together slowly. I need to order some parts soon. The first picture is how I got the truck from my Great Uncle. The second picture is one of my favorites - wish I could have been there! The last picture is of my 5-year-old - what an awesome kid! He's helping me sand the 2004 Dodge dually bed that will be going on this truck. More pics to follow of course. . .
Did my wheel bearing and axle bearing and seals yesterday in the drizzling rain, today did all the brakes, new cylinders and new emergency brake cables. Was going to stuff the motor but not in the rain. Cleaned out the garage and rearranged things so when it is time for fenders to be fitted, repaired and sanded the truck will fit in the garage. Did find my accelerator, did not think I had one it had hidden itself behind some stuff. One less part to buy. Working up a new parts order tonight, little things.
Put in a new thermostat, the 283 is much happier now. And I cleaned up the wiring under the dash with a new, bigger fuse block. And threw the radio out! now I just have to fix the ugly cut hole in my dash..
Alex 57' 3100 (The Bondo Bandit) Bad rust and worse wiring, but so much fun.
Tried to replace the mechanical and vacuum advance on my distributor. Snapped off one of the spring pins. Son of a monkey. The weight pins were worn halfway through anyway so just as well. Off to the FLAPS for a rebuilt unit. Got it all buttoned back up and got the timing set. Runs much better than before - determined a week or so ago neither advance system was working correctly.

Slid under on my creeper checking for the wrench size for the bleeders. I haven't had a chance to bleed the brakes yet. When I checked the wrench size it was too large for a 3/8 and too small for a 7/16 a 10mm, a 11mm, a12mm wouldn't fit. ????
I also managed to bolt on the right and left rear fender braces. Because of the fuel tank back there I couldn't get to the original bolt holes on the frame. I had to fabricate brackets to make it work. Left Rear Brace
My horns just came in. Tonight I'll need to make some brackets to mount them. I also need to run some speaker wires for future use after the headliner and carpet is in place.
Had my generator rebuilt due to a bad bearing, reinstalled that this afternoon. Still having a rough idle problem that I cant seem to lick though. New vacuum lines are next on the list.
Installed electric wipers. Motor fit well - had to tweak the added bracket and use a spacer. The switch wouldn't fit in place of the original selector due to the electrical connectors hitting the motor. I could have changed out the terminals and gotten it to fit, but I just used the LH radio knob hole instead. I put the original selector back in and told the kid she'd have to guess which knob to turn.
SWEET! just scored a grill gaurd off an old 50 chevy 3 window that was an old forestry truck. all the chrome is there except the pass side vertical bar is peeling a bit, and one tiny tiny ding.no bent bolts and complete as can be! $100 bucks im not complainig, guy selling was offered $275 for it but felt obligated to hold it for me......now, where do i find a good chrome shop???
Yesterday me and the Grandson started the flatbed, ran it around the yard (showed him how to shift gears, adjust choke etc, he's 4 years old btw), washed it(left it out in the rain) and still charging the battery. We ran the flag up the pole, Veteran's Day Life is good, especially if you are a grandparent Jim
I just finished installing my horns. Rather than putting them in the engine bay I put them behind the grill. I didn't want to clutter up the engine bay. HORNS 1 HORNS 2
