Anyone on here have a 53 3800 with some pics of the rear brakes. I looked in the manuals and cant seem to find any schematics.. My rear brakes are in very bad shape and i believe the parking brake internals are removed.. Just trying to get an idea of whats missing and whats not.. Thanks!

I appreciate it guys.. I believe that is the right illustration. I am missing a lot of parts. Also the brake line was cut and crimped of under the cab.. theres no telling how long they drove the truck with no rear brakes.. Also the drums are very worn.. I think im just gonna get the truck back together and look for a new rear end since it has the 514 gears.

I think a 53 would be the Bendix setup. The illustration at the bottom of the page is the bendix rear brake. Bendix rear brake Mayve they were the same for quite a few years and somebody like LMC may have some of the HW.

The link I gave is to 1-ton brake parts through 1952 (I found this properly labeled in a different Chevrolet Parts book). Yes, 1953 was the first year for Bendix brakes for 1-ton. So, the link I gave above is not to a correct illustration (but, I cannot find a correctly labeled illustration for a 1-ton - your illustration is most likely correct for 1/2-1 ton)?

Thanks for the help guys.. The truck does have the bendix on the front so i imagine the rear is bendix also now that you speak of it.. But i havent been able to find a drawing either on the larger size bendix.. so im still in the dark on whats missing.. Theres a lot of mystery about this old truck.. Hot rod lincoln just informed me that the generator that i have is probably off a oldsmobile or a caddy.. They swapped motors and slapped some bondo on and repainted it back in the 70s i believe.. Theres no telling what they have done to the truck. They used pretty much whatever part would fit it that they could find lol

That is the best that I could come up with for the Bendix brakes. I don't know how different the 1 Ton Bendix setup was from say the 1/2 Ton but I am guessing it was similar.

go to the old chev manuals on line and check out the gmc truck manual. there is a better picture of the rear bendix brake set up in there.
i just redid mine. the only things in the rear for the parking brake is the lever that is biolted to the rear shoe and the spreader bar that pushes the front shoe against the drum.
i also figured out what parts go where by checking out the various parts catalogs on line.
i'd send a pict of my 53 3/4 ton rear brakes if i was home.
