The problem I have in my 2-ton project is not addressed there. I have to take the window assembly unit (complete) out of the truck. To that end I have (had to) drilled out the 4 bolts holding the hinge on each side, and I was able to disconnect the crank SS roller strip. I assumed the window would then tilt enough to remove the two screws on each side that connect the hinges to the window frame steel. But, I didn't gain much, not enough to get a tool on the heads, and while I know I could slip a cut off blade in there that doesn't help me when I need to reinstall them. So, what have you done to accomplish this?? Any tips?? The window rubber is all cracked and dried so I will need to replace that anyway. I am just getting after the rust above the valance and want to fix wiper motors or replace with electrics but that is months away. It's been a few years since I redid my truck, but as I recall the window / frame unit opened up wide ( full horizontal ), so you can get a screwdriver on the head of those screws. The tab of the hinge slides into a slot on the top of the frame. Are the hinges rusted up tight which is limiting opening. I worked on other rust issues today and hoped for a response. The problem is, I think, 65 year old rubber exterior frame rubber that is not at all pliable to allow the extra inch or so I need to get on those frame screws. That needs to be replaced so
next chance I get I'll razor off that old seal and Bob's your uncle, as they say. How extensive was your restoration? I will look for your truck in the gallery.

| | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | The rubber seal / gasket sits against the outside of the window opening so it shouldn't be causing the issue unless it is just plain stuck to the cab metal. You will need a new rubber seal so cutting it away would be OK. I suggest Steeles Rubber products for all your new rubber items - their quality / products are much better than some of the offshore stuff that others sell. What condition is your winshield frame in ? Mine was rusted badly at the corners and center " Tee " area. I ended up purchasing a new frame from Jim Carter's. If you are going to need to replace the frame, damaging the existing isn't an issue.
My restoration was a " frame off ", but I was fortunate the body was in pretty good condition / minimal rust.

I have exposed and oiled the hinges and disconnected the crank linkage at the bottom. The frame swings out +/- 3" but the upper seal hits the cab at that point. This is not enough to allow access to the screws that make that frame attachment. Thanks for the tip on the rubber seal supplier. I will need to replace 100% of the rubber on this truck.
