My generator is labeled "12 volts", but as far as I'm aware it's still setup for 6v?

Is there a way I can see if it is or is not a 6v system anymore? :-S

Hy Streamylc, what year truck are we talking about? Six volt tags have a black background, twelve volt tags have a red background. I don't think any twelve volt generators have the brush cover strap on them, hope that helps.

Oops. I'm sorry :-P

'57 Chevy 4400.

Yup, mine is red background with white lettering.

I assume this means the system HAS to be 12v right?

Hy Streamylc, yes your truck was twelve volts when it left the factory, here in Canada Chevy trucks were twelve volt starting with the 55 "B" or second series.

I'm SOOOO glad to hear this *pffew*

I was afraid a previous owner did a "backyard job" on all the wiring to make it 12v. Since I took it out before I determined which it was, I was afraid I was in for QUITE the job re-wiring ;-P
