I am getting to the point of thinking about pulling my engine and having it overhauled, it smokes a bit and needs it. Anyway because of the babbit bearing I don't want to take it just anyplace. Do you guys have any recomendations? I am in Ohio and am willing to travel out of state for a good mechanic if needed.

I'd strongly reccomend going for the machining process to install the insert bearings in the rods. I was in charge of doing that machining on Chevy rods for a big rebuilder in Nashville, and it makes it much simpler to do a good buildup.
Adjusting the oil squirters is also a critical part of a good rebuild. They're not only tasked with filling the dipper troughs, but they need to squirt oil directly into the rod dippers at higher engine speeds. If possible, you'll need to find someone who is familiar with the special needs of these engines, and give him enough time to build it the right way.

Thats pretty much on track to what I was thinking, I want to stay away from the NAPA types that do mass rebuilds as they don't have the knowledge toc do babbits. I would like to find a mechanic and machine shop all rolled into one so they can do they upgrades as well as overhaul while I am working on the rest of the truck. I expect it will take a bit of time for them to do this and as I said I will travel across state lines to find a good shop if needed.
