Hey Grigg,
I did offer to pay to have the tires taken off of a wheel. They weren't interested. Do you really expect people to pay lots of money to ship rims and take their chances? We are talking hundreds of dollars. The closet parts guy from me was a 7 hour drive and a border crossing. Even then it would probably cost almost $200 in gas, not to mention 14 hours round trip. I also found some in Arizona, but someone else beat me to them. But Les Schawb in Lynden took the tires off of mine for free. That's why I bought my tires from them. Good service means return customers.

55 Chev 6400 lives in a relatively dry part of Texas where there once were a lot of peanut trucks. He needs to get out and look. Finding parts is one of the necessary things of the hobby of playing with old trucks.

That is why I am asking here on th bolt. I have been looking through the newspapers constantly and am still looking for those rims. And, none of the junkyards I have called within 150 miles do not have anything this old.

I feel your pain. There isn't much around here either. Although, I would think trucks in Texas would endure the weather better than around southern BC, which is a rain forest. I tried talking to truck museums and did get some leads. They look for parts to, but they didn't pan out for me, but wouldn't hurt to check it out. I never see anything for big trucks at our swap meets, even the ATHS shows which have big trucks. You can look on their website under the classifieds.

I would start out by going to feed dealers and feed mills in your area and ask if they know of someone has an old truck in their barn. Lots of country boys hang out at the Dairy Queen in Dublin. Get word out that you are looking. An operational salvage yard is one of the least likely places to find 50 year old parts. They have crushed 50's stuff years ago.

Hey 1955_chevy_6400, I have a 1955 6100 2nd series that came with 3 piece 20" rims. I read the tech article Grigg , Mike B and others put together and decided to go with the 22.5" rims off a 56-59 1 1/2 ton chevy. Tube tire seem to rust inside more easily than tubeless. So I think the 22.5" are a safer bet rust wise. I searched everywhere, craigslist, ebay, junkyards, I ask friends and stopped at many a farm along the roadside. I found a set for $35 apiece plus shipping and that include removal of the tires. It came out to about $65 a wheel and no rust problems. I like searching, it's part of the fun. Put an ad on craigslist and see if you get lucky. There's a set of wheels out there for you somewhere. Good luck! SEE YA! Mark

I have 6 (modern)10 hole rims avalible for 8R-19.5 tires. I used the same rims on my 49 6400 with alittle modification and they work great. I will post them on the swap site if you are interested.

What modifications did you have to make to get them to fit?
