The reason was to eliminate the oil smell but now Crank Case smoke is constantly coming from the Oil Fill Breather as if the carburetor isn't drawing in the fumes. I connected the rubber grommet into the draft tube opening and the PCV onto the back of the Rochester 2 Jet Carb (where there was a plug.) There are no additional breathers on the Valve Covers. What is causing this problem and how can I solve it
Thank you in advance | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | Just guessing, but it could be there's not enough suction from the carb port. You might need a manifold port. | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 121 | check that the pcv is not backwards.(speaking from experience) | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 | I checked and the PCV is in the correct direction and the Carb port is sucking like crazy! With the engine running and the hose to the pcv disconnected I see the crankcase smoke coming out of the hose but it also is coming out of the breather but not as much.... and if I take off a breather plug on the valve cover, it comes out of there also! The oily fumes are also causing my oil fill breather to drip oils. Also it 's very "doggy" when adding throttle. (sounds like a lot of vacuum but can't test as I have no vacuum gauge.... I can't imagine what's up | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | HI, ... I connected the rubber grommet into the draft tube opening ... is that where the pcv comes from? not familiar with the Eckler kit, but the factory setup comes from the road draft hole to replace the tube .... have you checked compression? maybe too much blowby for the system to handle? Bill | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 | Yes a rubber grommet replaces the draft tube opening and in the center is a tube that connects to a PCV at the base of the carb. I may try a larger dia. hose so the carb takes in more blowby. Any thoughts?? | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 843 | try an oil suppliment. "Restore" for high milege engines for example | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 | Thanks... I'll try the Restorer" ... It may help some. What about adding a "T" were the road draft tube was and split to the pcv at the base of the carb as well as to a valve cover or somewhere else? Anyone know of a Fan device to siphon the fumes into the exhaust??

You need to find the problem and fix it, not keep piling stuff on it. | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 43 | you're correct Cletis.... I stand corrected I don't want band-aides. Any advise? I have a lot of vacuum at the base of the carb as I posted earlier. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | My suggestion would be to pull the valve out from the grommet and while it is still attached to the hose, check for vacuum right there. | | |
