| | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 88 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2008 Posts: 88 | I was working on my front brakes when i decided to pull off the wheel hubs so that i could get the old wheel cylinders off easier, i found that the wheel bearings on the drivers side ( inside bearing and race) was wasted, everything else was in pretty good shape the truck only has 40,000 miles on it. I started to think does anybody make or sell a roller bearing conversion for a 59 3800 1-ton?? also is it really needed to change over from ball to roller bearing?? and most of all does anybody have the part numbers for the inner,outer, races and inner, outer bearings, and grease seals. i guess i will have to go to the local industrial bearing house to find some cheaper bearing,the ones i have found in the after market parts books are nuts!! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,186 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 1,186 | I just finished doing the same thing. I took my bearing to a local bearing shop and was told the "groove" in the race was supposed to be there (it's where the balls ride) and he said the bearing was fine. Somewhat doubtfull, I checked other bearings from my other 1 ton parts trucks and every one was the same. I greased them up and everything went back together perfect. So unless yours is really trashed, it's probably still good.

The ball bearings are expensive. If you grease the & adjust them correctly they will lst from now on out.
