For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 | Hello felow bolters.I just purchased a 1940 pickup in pieces. It has a nove clip and the nova rear in it already( put in by a hotrodder in lethbridge. should be good. will check)has almost everything in it but is a long term prodgect. i will get pics up when i get it home this weekend. first off, what would be the best book to buy for this truck? one of the factory assembly manuals? just something for reference. Thanks Barry | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | Custom builds don't go 'by the book'. If there is a factory assembly manual for '40s it might help you with some of the cab details but as far as mechanicals, you're on your own. | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | Actually, there is a lot of info available on this site as to assembly of sub-components like cab mounting, box assembly & mounting, etc. Depending on how much of the original frame remains, things like radiator shell, fender mounting, etc. shouldn't be too difficult. Nova clip should have engine mounts for a SBC ?. If you get stuck, give me an email - pleased to help out if I can | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 | OK thanks guys. Bruce it looks like it would be as close of a buildup as yours. i was going to go with a 400sbc and 700R4. It has minimal rust, just the blue baked on paint. Ill get it home and itemize everything and go from there. It has a 74 nova clip and rear end. the frame has been shortened the 10 inches to make it 113 inches long. most of the stuff is there. i will need to shorten the box and running boards 10" to make it 1/2 ton size. I think the first thing to do is get a new cab support brackets and set the cab where it needs to be and that would give me a good starting point. Bruce-you will probably get a few e-mails from me LOL. Thanks. The boy will be learning how to weld and sand soon LOL Barry | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | Not sure about the differences between the 1/2 and 1 ton trucks. You might want to contact 3b ( Bob ) on this board. He is a font of knowledge, and has many different trucks in his collection. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 59 | Thanks for the tip Bruce! I talked to B3 (Bobb) and he said there is no difference between the 1/2 and 1 ton. It all gets bigger with the big bolts. Now does any one have any ideas where to start? LOL Barry.
