The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Weird Accident - '60 Panel - parked

I was in the house today,when I heard
a loud crash (when you hear it,you know - it's serious).
Stupid kid ran into my neighbor's new-
er Toyota Tacoma,& it put the trailer ball
into the '60 panel.bendind the front bumper.
It pushed the Toyota (6 feet),into our
panel (it moved 2 feet).
Driver ran off - now he's facing hit-&-run charges.I have PL/PD,so my insurances
is worthless.
I was lucky - just need a new front bumper,but my neighbor had his truck totaled.The idiot probably doesn't have insurance.
Any ideas/help?I have pictures,if any-
one is willing to post them

Under most insurance policies, this is a scenario where you are not at fault and the other unidentified driver would be temporarily classified as uninsured. The insurance company would definitely want a police report/ file number to tag with the insurance claim. I would still call and ask about the uninsured driver coverage.

I am not sure .... just an idea....but since you were hit by your neighbor's truck. It (your neighbors truck) ran into you, not the kid that ran away then your claim may be with your neighbor. Hopefully he has insurance and it might cover you.
You got hit by his car. Then his insurance you need to worry about catching the kid that got away and get him to pay for the Toyota damages and reimburse them for your 60 panel damages.

But your neighbors truck hit you. Not his fault maybe but it hit you. Not much difference than if his brake released and it rolled and hit you. He would be responsible even without him being in the truck. His liability should maybe cover you. He would be out the deductible.

Also get a police report. So the police can also have it on file and may look for some damaged vehicles. They can get pain samples and possibly determine the type or at least the color of the vehicle. Then if you saw him run off maybe you have some of that information.

svwilbur, you may be correct, but I couldn't try to pin it on my neighbor. It just seems wrong to me.

I'm covered under my uninsured motorist part of my
insurance,& they'll waive the deductible.
The kid ran off,but left his '80's Toyota Forerunner
behind.

Any bets that the abandoned 4runner is not anywhere near in value to the damage done to the Panel?

P.S. Congrats on getting the coverage claim. Hopefully the kid gets his/her due.
