I've been told that I have a 1954 235 engine and would like to swap with a newer 5 speed overdrive floor manual shift tranny. A fellow burber told me that a Chevy S10 would work with an adapter.
Question where would I find this adaptor and will new transmission fit in same hole of floor transmission coverplate?

Shouldn't need an adapter, the S10 T5 will bolt right up. I'm not sure about the shifter, but I beleive it will be ok, or at least close.

The biggest problem on the 54 on back you have to put a open drive shsft 3rd member in & weld up the pivots where the rear axle attaches to the springs. Read up on it. What ever you have to do the results are rewarding.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Well, this engine is a 54 but I have a 49 panel. I don't know if this helps on answers. I appreciate all the answers so far. Thank you all!
