I'm installing a new generic wiring harness on my '50 3100. Everything except the brake lights are working. Rear harness has a wire for tail lights and for left & right turn signals. Turn signals are wired to a Signal-Stat setup. Turn signals and tail lights work fine. Tail lights are 2 bulb type from Classic: http://www.classicparts.com/1947-53-Taillamp-Assembly-Painted-R-Bluedot/productinfo/49-026/ . Wire comes from taillights to terminal on headlight switch. Have 1 wire from fuse panel going the brake switch (batt +) Have a wire from stop switch to brake switch (ignition wire).

If your signal-stat is a 7 wire your brake light power needs to run through it. If it is a 3 or 4 wire you need separate lights for your turn signals.

I just read your tech tip again. With what I have in tail lights, turn signals and wiring do I need another tail light for turn signals or do I need a dual filament bulb? I'm a bit lost at this point. Thanks.

A 5 wire unit uses separate light housings with single filament bulbs on the rear. You can use dual filament bulbs on front if your parking lights have the sockets for it.

OK. My fronts are parking/turn signals, no problem. But I want to keep the tail lights I have now but want tail light, brake light and turn signals like a modern vehicle. How can I do this without adding another pair of lights in the back? I'm finding this confusing because before the frame off, I had this set up working, no problem. Only difference was I had the fender mounted signals in the front. The back tail lights had 2 housings identical to the current set up.

To use the same housings for brake and turn you will need to replace your switch with a 7 wire. With it the brake light signal goes into the switch and is then sent to the appropriate light.
