The crankshaft broke in half and the new one is in. How do I know when the crank's nose gear for the timing chain is on deep enough? I took it apart a while ago and don't remember. Without the woodruff key, it will bottom out on the crank. Any ideas? Timing chain seems to be flat against a guide flange, but the gear looks a smidge cocked. Key is in and I'm hesitant to try and drive it on further. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Did you heat the gear before installing it? Get it just hot enough to need a welder's glove to handle it, and it will slip on all the way to the bottom without hammering on it at all. Too late now, I know, but you might consider pulling it back off and cleaning up any burrs the hammer job created, then heat it with a Propane torch. Jerry

Thanks,

Worked perfect, no beat, no tap. Got a new chain and gear set too. Old had too much slack.
Thanks!!!
