| | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 | Someone Cut with a hacksaw our parking brake cable near the front, so we can't hook up the brake to the handle. I was wondering if there is anything that would work to fix that, I would be ok with something new from the parts store if it would work. We need the brake to function so it will pass inspection and be safe. Not sure what we could find that would work maybe compare wheel base's with a newer truck and see if we could make something happen.
Also, I can't get any Pedal in the brakes. I installed new lines in the rear, and Was attempting to bleed them but I cant get any pedal/pressure to build up. Is this a sign that the wheel cylinders and or the master cylinder is bad?

After trying to fix my brake system I with the old parts they still leaked... So I went ahead and replaced the whole system... With all new parts I did go with DOT 5 fluid... I used Speed Bleeders on the wheel cylinders so I could bleed them with no assistance... I also replaced the parking brake cables...

I'm assuming this the bar that extends from beneath the floorpan to the rear crossbar? If you have both pieces and you can remove them, see if a weld shop can safely weld it together or fab a new one for ya. Sorry no replacements for that available unless you find it off another truck.
2) Cylinders. You should check for leaks around the wheel cylinders and master. You just put in new lines, and you might as well put in fresh parts for trustworthy brakes.
P.S. Some of us don't check the CrashBoxShop (generally transmission stuff) all too often. You could ask a brake question in General Truck Talk.
